Visiting the Highest Point in Kansas

A few years ago, I went with my daughter and father to Rome, Georgia for a geocaching event. We would be driving past Mt. Cheaha in Alabama. Mt. Cheaha is the highest point in Alabama so there is another state I can check off my list.

That did NOT go well.

But I was there, and checked Alabama off my list.

I also decided that the whole visit, the highest point in each state thing, might not be a great idea.

Something to think about.

But then, a few years later, I had the opportunity to drive from Florida to Colorado.

I see that I will be close to the highest point in Kansas, look at some pictures online and decide that I have to mark this state off.

Mt Sunflower is the spot considered the highest point in Kansas at 4,039 feet above sea level. But this is my kind of highest point.

Flat ground as far as the eye can see.

Yep, I drove down a long dusty flat road in the middle of nowhere to get there.

As I was standing there looking at flat ground as far as the eye could see I realized that I don’t have to cross off visit the highest point in each state. I just may have to alter that list slightly.

Not all states are flat, after all.
